Excuses Be Gone!

Jun 01, 09 Excuses Be Gone!

The Book by Dr. Dyer

So I was up eating breakfast on Sunday morning – lounging in my cushy, brown leather chair and skipping through channels to see if there was anything interesting to watch when I flipped by PBS.  I enjoy PBS and find myself watching programs there more and more often.  And to my great enjoyment this morning’s programming featured one my favorite authors – Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Dr. Dyer was promoting his new program Excuses Be Gone and I must admit I was intrigued with that title.  So I found myself putting the remote down and listening to Dr. Dyer.  You can view a little of the program in the video posted to the right.  Although I was only able to catch the tail end of the program, I found what I think to be some very valuable thoughts to share.

I think that many of us let excuses get in the way of becoming the amazing people we are.  All too often an excuse pops into the mind that stops us from reaching for that next goal, taking the risk that could be so great for our future or accomplishing something truly great.  So as I was listening, it turns out Dr. Dyer has created 18 affirmations for some of the most common excuses that stop people short of their dreams and goals.  Below are some of the excuses I find popping into my mind from time to time, the affirmations that Dr. Dyer created to go with them and a note or two about my mindset….

It will be difficult.
I have the ability to accomplish any task I set my mind to do with ease and comfort. – Ease and comfort, that needs to be my mindset as I move through my business day.

It will be risky.
Being myself involves no risk, it is my ultimate truth and I live fearlessly. – Wow, the idea of living fearlessly really struck me.

I don’t deserve it.
I am a divine creation, a piece of god, how can I be undeserving? – Duh!  Not sure why I have to keep being reminded of this, but for some reason, I forget on occasion.

I can’t afford it.
I am connected to an unlimited source of abundance. – Everything I need is available to me, I just need to be open to receiving it.

No one will help me.
The right circumstances and the right people are already here and will show up on time. – I teach people every day about the amazing power to connect with resources via Social Media and yet at times I still struggle with this.

Its never happened before.
I am open and willing to attract all I desire being beginning here and now. – Let’s get it on!

It’s too big.
I think only about what I can do now.  By thinking small I accomplish great things. – On several occasions I have caught myself getting a little overwhelmed rather than breaking things down into manageable steps and getting to work.

I Don’t Have The Energy.
I feel passionately about my life and this passion fills me with excitement and energy.  – As the saying goes, you will never work a day in your life if you love what you do and I love The Social Latte!

I’m too busy.
As I un-clutter my life, I free myself to answer the callings of my soul. – This one is my favorite because it is the one I find myself working on the most right now.  Focus, drive, passion and success.

Fast forward to Monday morning.  I am determined to start running again and be able to either compete in a marathon or triathlon and after the Wayne Dyer program, I have no more excuses for not waking up and getting some exercise.  The alarm clock goes off at 5:15am, I hit snooze, lay there for a moment and think about how I want my life to look and the excuses I let into my head.  Still laying there…. getting sleepy… bed is so warm and cozy.

Then, in that last moment before falling asleep, where you can sometimes hear your clearest voice, I realized that I don’t want my excuses to be bigger than my commitment to myself to exercise or the vision I have for my future.

My run in South Mountain this morning wasn’t my fastest, but I can tell you it was one of my best.  What excuses are you letting get in your way?

Only halfway through the book, reading and discussing it with Kelly made the past weekend so very memorable. Dr. Dyer has been a powerful mentor over the years and this book is not a disappointment. Thank you for sharing your perceptions of this encouraging, thought-provoking guide.
